Sara Alemayehu

Sara Alemayehu joined the Nebraska Statewide Workforce & Educational Reporting System (NSWERS) in March 2026, bringing more than seven years of experience in computer science and information technology.

At NSWERS, Sara works closely with the Assistant Director for IT Applications to plan, develop, and manage the organization’s data infrastructure in support of NSWERS’ goals and objectives. Her work includes ensuring secure and effective application operations, creating efficient and automated data processing routines, and supporting successful data integration with NSWERS partner organizations.

While her primary focus is database architecture, she also brings full-stack development experience, supporting the design and implementation of high-performance applications that advance NSWERS’ mission.

Sara holds a Master of Computer Science degree from the University of Lyon (France) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Bahir Dar University (Ethiopia).

Originally from Ethiopia, Alemayehu is passionate about leveraging data systems to drive meaningful insights and support data-informed decision making

What behavior or personality trait do you most attribute your success to, and why?
I most attribute my success to a combination of curiosity and patience.

If I wasn’t in my field of work, I would probably be:
A pilot.

What gets you up in the morning?
The opportunity to learn something new every day is my primary driver. I’m constantly looking for ways to improve my skills, whether it’s mastering a new tool or refining a process to be more efficient.

How many different countries have you lived in? Which ones?
I’ve lived in three countries: France, Ethiopia, and the United States.

What is a fun or interesting fact about your home country?
Ethiopia follows a unique calendar (the Ethiopian calendar or Ge’ez calendar) with 13 months and is approximately 7–8 years behind the Gregorian calendar.
